M100 præsenterer soloudstillingen “Changing” af den unge danske performancekunstner Filip Vest (f. 1995), der med performance, lyd, lugt og installatoriske greb, undersøger omklædningsrummet som et liminalt rum i et queer perspektiv.
Omklædningsrummet er et sted hvor kroppe forhandles og kroppe forandrer sig. Det er et rum for en række koreografier dikteret af blikket; At være bange for at kigge på folk, eller at selv blive kigget på af andre mennesker – på en forkert måde. Det er et sammenligningernes sted, et sted hvor normativitet bliver vedligeholdt og intimiteten er så forvirrende og skræmmende, at den konstant må punkteres.
Titlen “Changing” er lånt fra det engelske ord “changing room” og peger på hvordan det ikke bare er tøjet der bliver skiftet, men også rummet der skifter karakter og kroppe der forandrer sig, som de ændres fra snavsede til rene, beklædte til afklædte, bevæger sig ind og ud af skabe og puberteter.
Udstillingen består af en totalinstallation med lyd, duft og forskellige skulpturelle elementer, der tilsammen udgør et omklædningsrum. Rummet er befolket af snavsede sokker, behårede drikkedunke, en masse Axe deo-spray, små beskeder skrevet på de fugtige vinduer og en flok syngende brusere.
Til åbningen af udstillingen vises en ny performance, der fryser tiden i omklædningsrummet og spørger: Hvor længe kan man bruge på at tage sine sokker af for at udskyde det øjeblik, man skal i bruseren? Performancen er skrevet og instrueret af Filip Vest og performet af Theo Suissa. Til udstillingen skriver Luka Holmegaard en performativ udstillingstekst, som handler om en person der er ved at gøre sig klar i omklædningsrummet, og som de besøgende kan læse for selv at gøre sig klar til udstillingen.
Udstillingen er støttet af Statens Kunstfond, Det Obelske Familiefond og Odense Kommune, kulturpuljen.
Filip Vest (f. 1995) er uddannet MFA fra Malmö Kunstakademi i 2021 og har tidligere vist sit arbejde på Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen Contemporary, Møstings, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Charlottenborg, Tallinn Kunsthal og for Manifesta13. Gennem performance, installationer, film og tekster undersøger han queer kærlighed, ensomhed og begær i det 21. århundrede. Ved at anvende øvelsesmetoder fra teatret tester han forholdet mellem tekst og krop og de måder, hvorpå vi konstant genforhandler vores identiteter og de narrativer, vi er en del af.

M100 presents the solo exhibition “Changing” by the young Danish performance artist Filip Vest (b. 1995), who, with performance, sound, smell and installation techniques, examines the changing room as a liminal space in a queer perspective.
The changing room is a place where bodies are negotiated and bodies change. It is a space for a series of choreographies dictated by the gaze; Being afraid to look at people, or to be looked at by other people – in the wrong way.
It is a place of comparisons, a place where normativity is maintained and intimacy is so confusing and frightening that it must be constantly punctured. The title “Changing” refers to the word “changing room” and points out, how it is not just the clothes that are changed, but also the room that changes character and bodies that change, as they change from dirty to clean, clothed to unclothed , moving in and out of closets and puberty.
The exhibition consists of a total installation with sound, scent and various sculptural elements that together form a changing room. The room is populated by dirty socks, hairy drinking bottles, a lot of Ax deo spray, little messages written on the damp windows and a bunch of singing showers.
At the opening of the exhibition, a new performance will be staged, that freezes the time in the changing room and asks: For how long can you take off your socks to postpone the moment you have to take a shower? The performance is written and directed by Filip Vest and performed by Theo Suissa.
For the exhibition, Luka Holmegaard writes a performative exhibition text, about a person who is getting ready in the changing room, and which the visitors can read to get ready for the exhibition themselves.
The exhibition is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the Obelske Family Foundation and Odense Municipality, Kulturpuljen.
Filip Vest (b. 1995) graduated MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2021 and has previously shown his work at the Statens Museum for Art, Copenhagen Contemporary, Møstings, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Charlottenborg, Tallinn Kunsthal and for Manifesta13. Vest has received a work grant from the Danish Arts Foundation in 2023 and is a participant in the Art Hub Residency Program. Through performance, installations, films and texts, he investigates queer love, loneliness and desire in the 21st century. Using exercise methods from the theatre, he tests the relationship between text and body and the ways in which we constantly renegotiate our identities and the narratives we are part of.
