Maritime aliens, gymnastic mermaids and snail-people occupy M100 with the solo exhibition “Salt Water Nymphs” by Meret Krasa (b. 1997).

The exhibition marks the end of Meret Krasa’s 4th year of study at the Funen Art Academy, which M100 is very happy to host in the period 23 – 30 June 2023.

Through a combination of oil paintings and sculptures, Krasa delves into the mysteries of the sea and explores the magnetic attraction fostered by the unknown deep and its mythical inhabitants.

The fascination of the unknown wide world and its inhabitants below the water surface, has throughout human history, formed the basis for culture-bearing myths that run like a flowing stream from Homer’s Odyssey to the spellbinding epic science fiction films we are captivated by today.

With techniques equivalent to the strong appealing aesthetics of popular culture, Meret Krasa thus interweaves the worlds of sea animals and humans, exploring for a common origin and the common threads that bind us together. The relation to the sea and the connectedness with the maritime inhabitants are recurring themes in Meret Krasa’s artistic work, instigated by growing up with the enormous forces of nature of the North Sea on the island of Sylt/ Sild in Germany.
